Mendocino Hotel hosts weekend of wine tastings and workshops for mushroom lovers Nov 10-11

Mendocino - Mycologist Eric Cerecedes (Mycosphere) is pleased to join winemakers Deborah Wallow (Yorkville Cellars) and Allan Greenwood (Greenwood Ridge Vineyards), and chef Drew Ison (Mendocino Hotel) in presenting MALBEC, MERLOT & MUSHROOMS, a weekend at the historic Mendocino Hotel celebrating breakthrough medicinal mushrooms and award-winning local wines.

Presented by Greenwood Ridge Vineyards, Yorkville Cellars and PowerShroom.com, the weekend includes a forage, picnic, workshops and gourmet dinner featuring local wild and medicinal mushrooms paired with some of the bioregion's best Malbec and Merlot.

Medicinal Mushroom Forage and Workshops

On Saturday morning, PowerShroom.com mycologist Eric Cerecedes will take guests on a forage through the beautiful forests of Mendocino, teaching them how to identify and safely use local wild medicinal mushrooms. After a portobello picnic, the Mendocino Hotel will host presentations of Life Force: The Healing Power of Mushrooms, a mind-expanding overview of medicinal mushrooms, their historical uses, modern applications and future potentials for human health and planetary healing, followed by The Fungi Food Group: Putting Mushrooms on the Menu, a hands-on guided session on growing gourmet medicinal mushrooms at home.

Winemaker's Dinner by Chef Drew Ison

On Saturday evening, Mendocino Hotel executive chef Drew Ison will prepare special menu ode to mushrooms, featuring favorites including the Shitake, Oyster, Morel, Chanterelle, and Lobster along with a compliment of other local wild gourmets. Each course will be paired with special Merlot selections from the cellars of Greenwood Ridge winemaker Allan Greenwood and Yorkville Cellars proprietor Deborah Woll including their renowned Pinot Gris, Semillon and a vertical tasting of Malbecs.
